The primary responsibility of this position is to act as wastewater treatment operator in the Water Control department of Santa Fe Springs for Heraeus Metals Processing, LLC., in accordance with HMP’s leadership principles. To effectively complete department day-to-day operations and assignments by management. To operate and maintain assigned Water Control operation area in order to meet HMP’s expectations consistently while maintaining compliance with Environmental, Health, & Safety Standards. 

Your Role and Responsibilities:

    • Have a working knowledge of water control processes. 

    • Must complete process documentation forms, such as batch tickets, weekly equipment PM, and discharge record, verify pH/ORP meter calibration for treatment system and scrubbers are performed, scrubber operation log, bulk chemical deliveries and proper labeling of containers as required. 

    • Is responsible to work and act in accordance to the Quality System and the Environmental Management system.  

    • Directly responsible for assigned plant wastewater treatment and scrubber operations. 

    • Is responsible for using all equipment in the right way and in a self-sustaining manner.  

    • Verify all samples are collected and prepared correctly for analysis. 

    • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area. 

    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English for shift turnovers 

    • Follow SOPs and all written or verbal instructions assigned by management. 

    • Adhere to all safety guidelines and applicable company policies. 

    • Must be able to perform all processes in assigned areas of the department 

    • Ability to wear a half-mask respirator. 

    • Responsible for understanding safety requirements and emergency procedures. 

    • Responsible for understanding basic chemical reactions and properties of chemicals within the work area. 

    • Responsible for handling and processing Hazardous Waste as required within the work area. 

    • Responsible for completion of Hazardous Waste training as required. 

What is required for this role:

  • High School Diploma, some college courses with an emphasis on industrial water treatment helpful.  
  • Hazwopper, First Aid, CPR and Emergency Response Training.  
  • 2 years experience with industrial water treatment (continuous and batch treatment) and scrubber operations.  
  • Successful completion of water treatment correspondence courses 
  • Experience with PLC controls for an automated industrial water treatment system preferred. This includes ion exchange system, hydrated lime slurry and make-up feed systems using double diaphragm pumps, pneumatic valves, level controls and flow meters.  
  • Some computer skills, including Microsoft and Excel are beneficial.
