Heraeus Quartz North America has an immediate opening for a skilled and experienced Controls Engineer II to join our Engineering team in Buford, GA. In this role, you will be responsible for providing controls engineering design and technical support to the manufacturing plant. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial controls design and proficiency with standard PLC languages and hardware. You will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and improving processes to meet production demands while improving efficiency, productivity, costs and quality.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Upgrade existing controls on legacy systems and install new systems for critical plant processes.
- Work with technicians and operators on a shop floor level during installation and commissioning of electrical and controls upgrades.
- Design and engineer electrical schematics and layouts using ePlan.
- Configure HMIs and program PLCs including Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal.
- Provide hands on troubleshooting and technical support.
- Manage electrical, automation, and controls intensive engineering capital projects.
- Provide training to operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
- Work cross functionally with R&D, mechanical engineers, process engineers, operations, and outside contractors to design, install, and commission manufacturing solutions for new processes and products.
- Collect, evaluate, and analyze process data to evaluate the effectiveness of controls strategies.
- Identify control system failure points through effective root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
What is Required for this Role:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or relate discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of industrial controls engineering experience is required.
- Experience with PLC hardware and software implementation.
- Proficiency with standard PLC languages and hardware. Siemens expertise is required.
- Ability to create and interpret electrical diagrams. Must be proficient with ePlan.
- Ability to understand and integrate electrical and mechanical systems.
- Must be able and willing to work on shop floor during troubleshooting or project execution.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members across various disciplines.
