Heraeus Quartz North America, LLC. has an immediate opening for a Research and Development Technician to join our Innovation team at our Buford, GA. facility.  The R&D Tech is a critical member of the R&D department, responsible for safely and efficiently assembling, disassembling, and inspecting machines, equipment and tools utilized in our daily operations.

 

Your Role and Responsibilites:

  • Responsible for set-up and operation of cutting-edge equipment and tools to fine-tune high-temperature processes for making optical fiber preforms and synthetic silica glass tubes.
  • Collaborating closely with R&D scientists and engineers to execute hands-on experimental tasks essential to our strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in the operation of machinery within a machine shop, including lathes, bandsaws, milling, grinding, and drilling machine etc.
  • Applying electrical expertise and troubleshooting skills occasionally, lending valuable support to our pioneering projects.
  • Upholding rigorous company and industry safety regulations, as well as meticulously controlled sequential and equipment programming functions.
  • Effectively communicating with production operators and supervisors, and providing essential training on relevant processes to team members.
  • Thriving in a self-sufficient work environment, delivering good performance with minimal supervision while adhering to documented protocols.
  • Maintaining clear updates on all activities within the designated area.

 

What is required for this role:

  • A High School Diploma/GED Equivalent with 5+ years of manufacturing experience, or an Associate's degree with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Preferably, prior exposure to silica glass, high-temperature furnaces, and welding lathes.
  • Desirable skills include experience in PLC programming, robotics, and CAD.
  • Comfortable with basic math and fractions to track and record weights and process measurements.
  • Computer literate and knowledgeable about general hand tools.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds without strain and needs to have a Quality First attitude and a strong team spirit tohelp keep equipment running within process specifications.
  • Must stand for several hours at a time while performing their main job functions.
