The primary responsibility of this position is to administrate the intellectual property of Heraeus Conamic North America and manage its patent portfolio.


Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Review invention disclosures and support our engineers and developers in the process of drafting invention disclosures.
  • Support patenting decisions in our IP Review Boards as well as support prosecution of national and international patent applications in cooperation with external IP attorneys and the in-house IP department.
  • Initiate patentability, right to use, and state of art patent searches.
  • Survey third party IP for new developed materials, technologies, components and products and support of Freedom to Operate analyses.
  • Follow up on development status, plans to commercialize inventions, to support decisions to file corresponding international patents.
  • Support the investigation of patent utilization, commercial offensive and defensive value to help make decisions to maintain or abandon patents.
  • Continuously improve/maintain patent monitoring and tracking processes.
  • Support contract reviews for IP related causes.


What is required for this role:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Sciences, Material Science, or Ceramic Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in IP management of advanced materials/technologies, where you have been working with patent attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications. The equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 
  • Broad technical and analytical skills, but also business acumen and strong interpersonal skills, as well as an aptitude for learning.
  • Industrial experience in the materials processing industry.
  • Experience with product/project design and development.
  • Knowledge of Intellectual Property Management.
  • Previous experience performing IP searches.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
