Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure conformance of materials and finished products to specifications.

 

The scheduled shift for this role is Monday - Thursday 4:30pm - 3:00am.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as required):
  • Inspect materials and products following standard operating procedures and refer any doubts to the Quality Manager.
  • Record appropriate quality and production information to verify that product meets requirements.
  • Do not pass product that does not meet requirements. Refer to the Quality Manager or Quality Engineer those problems that cannot be fixed in a normal amount of time or without additional resources.
  • Continuously improve all aspects of inspection, including but not limited to methods, tools, records, communication and teamwork. Present ideas for improvement to Production Manager and Quality Manager for approval.
  • Inspect incoming materials intended for production according to specification.
  • Inspect manufactured products to ensure that product meets all customer requirements as specified on drawings and other inspection criteria, e.g. dimensions, visual, stress, surface and interior defects
  • Interpret Heraeus inspection standards, manufacturing drawings and customer related inspection criteria.
  • Cleaning and proper packaging of products
  • Properly use required instruments, tools and equipment.
  • Maintain quality control documents, check sheets, reports and files.
  • Fill out inspection report to Heraeus and customer requirements.
  • Control non-conforming product and ensure correct disposition.
  • Keep quality control areas, tools and instruments clean and organized.
  • Master orientation training, including an understanding of Heraeus, the Safety and Quality Management Systems, principles of Lean Manufacturing as applied at HQNA Wilmington and basic care and handling of quartz glass products.

Working Relationships

Works with Quality Manager and interacts with other members of the quality department, production and engineering departments to achieve efficient flow of product and problem resolution. Occasionally, works with customer to understand requirements. Customers may be internal or external.

 

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous relevant experience preferred
  • Keen eye for detail and visual ability to detect multiple inspection points
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, professionalism and leadership ability; exhibit a high level of motivation and initiative with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team player
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)


Language Skills

Quality Inspector I should be able to read and write English, communicate efficiently and effectively to understand job assignments, work instructions, read drawings, interpret inspection criteria and discuss problems with Managers. Ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) with all levels within the organization. Excellent interpersonal skills required.


Mathematical Skills

Knowledge of basic arithmetic. The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem. Ability to program calculations using software tools.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. Ability to learn computer software packages such as SAP.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply common sense towards the execution of responsibilities. The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision; must be a self-starter.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The ability to use inspection and measuring tools. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts as well as hazardous materials/chemicals. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet to moderate. This person will be required as needed to wear Specialized Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Eye Protection, Hearing Protection, or Breathing Apparatus. While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be in contact with potentially hazardous materials.
