Your Role and Responsibilites

  • Directs activities of the INNOVATION / Research & Development function and encourages the interchange of information, ideas and techniques in the various scientific and engineering fields
  • Formulates and recommends laboratory research programs in assigned department to meet organization needs for the improvement and cost reduction of existing products and the development and testing of new products, processes, and materials.
  • Reviews and evaluates results and conclusions of laboratory work and pilot projects.
  • Coordinates research and development work with engineering design and production activities.
  • Conducts testing and pilot runs of new or improved products and investigates customer complaints.
  • Defines, develops, organizes, and coordinates the plans, problems, and projects of the department.
  • Prepares reports on the progress of the research and development work, and recommends the addition, expansion or discontinuance of projects.
  • Contacts potential customers, as needed, on new product applications and oversees activities on identification, acquisition, and protection of  intellectual property of new products and processes .
  • Supervises employees by establishing goals and objectives, conducting performance appraisals and recommending salary actions, hiring, and disciplinary actions.
  • Takes strategic direction on INNOVATION /R&D and technology development activity from the HNG Head of Innovation (functional reporting) in collaboration with the legal reporting line to the HNA Head of Sales & INNOVATION.

 

What is required for this role:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in physical science or engineering (or equivalent) and twenty years or more experience in the execution and management of complex technology development programs and supporting/working with manufacturing operations, engineering and sales/marketing; or,
  • Master of Science in physical science or engineering and fifteen years or more experience in the execution and management of complex technology development programs and supporting/working with manufacturing operations, engineering and sales/marketing; or,
  • Doctor of Science in physical science or engineering and ten years or more experience in the execution and management of complex technology development programs and supporting/working with manufacturing operations, engineering and sales/marketing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated qualities of a Senior executive, high level of integrity, and standing based upon strengths of experience and character.
  • Demonstrated expertise in patents; effective R@D functions, hands-on technology development, and building and leading effective R@D teams and organizations.
