The primary responsibility of this position is to the primary responsibility of this position is to act as a Research Scientist in the North American Innovation group specializing in Chemical Product development for Heraeus Precious Metals (HPM) in accordance with Heraeus Holding management principles. The Research & Development Scientist for Chemical Product Innovation and Development in conjunction with Innovation management is responsible for the timely planning and execution of chemical experiments in relation to development projects for new processes and products for Chemical Products at HPM.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Supports the design and development of new products, applications or new processes for the Chemical Products Business Line. 
  • Supports Chemical Products and Recycling production in the case of acute production problems. 
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of projects for the development of new processes and products under special consideration of costs and time schedule. 
  • Works with Innovation management to assure that projects related to production are developed and executed in alignment with production managers and supervisors.  
  • Works with support staff to assure departments’ adherence to quality, safety and environmental standards that exceed the industry minimum. 
  • Assures with Innovation management that new invented processes and products or improved processes and products are in accordance with quality, safety and environmental standards of the industry and the authorities. 
  • Is responsible for the reduction of accidents (occupational, reportable, recordable, and minor) in the department to zero. 
  • Delivers data necessary for permit registration and authority compliance within CA and USA legislation. 

 

What is required for this role:

  • A Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or related field with a focus on synthetic (especially inorganic and/or organometallic) chemistry required, preferably with precious metals experience with 0-2 years’ experience or a B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry or related field with 3-5 years’ experience.  
  • Experience in analytical chemistry methods and techniques (NMR, IR, UV/Vis, ICP, etc.) and spectra elucidation required. 
  • Some experience in kilo-lab environment helpful, but not necessary. 
  • Understanding of chemical literature and search tools preferred. 
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office, ChemDraw) required.
