The primary responsibility of this position is to lead design and development activities on nitinol and nitinol-related medical device products.

The following challenges await you:

  • Lead or contribute to design, development, and validation activities for complex medical devices in accordance with project scope
  • Develops processes, fixtures, and equipment for site and product requirements
  • Assess and incorporate input for design for manufacturing
  • Lead procurement, on-boarding, and installation of equipment and fixtures
  • Provides guidance regarding technical strategies and approaches; work cross-functionally in identifying, analyzing, and resolving technical issues
  • Utilizes process characterization skills and tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE), pFMEA, and capability analysis.
  • Ensure that proper technology processes are selected, developed, implemented, maintained, and documented to successfully introduce new products into manufacturing
  • Available to support and trouble shoot production ramp up issues as needed
  • Assume responsibility for completeness and accuracy of developed processes (i.e., lead, manage, communicate, complete documentation, train) including ownership of process capability, process quality and controls, and process costs
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field required, master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field helpful
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience required, including specific experience with nitinol (material properties, laser cutting, post processing, shape setting, electro-polishing, testing, etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge in use of nitinol components in medical devices like stents, snares, or embolic protection
  • Independently applies knowledge of the methodology for process development and selection
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts to broad audiences and customers
  • Able to make data driven decisions utilizing statistical tools such as DOE, tolerance stack-up analysis, or Minitab
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills and actively works to coach others in this area
  • Proficient with new technology development and capital equipment procurement
  • Actively, informally, or formally coaches and mentors less experienced engineers
  • Must work cross-functionally to influence and drive for results
  • Continuous improvement mindset and champions change within the organization
  • Must be willing and able to travel between the Fridley and White Bear Lake, Minnesota sites as needed
