In this position you will provide functional leadership to a team of project managers responsible for the successful execution of new product development projects.  This includes coaching and developing team members, driving effective execution of a diverse portfolio of projects, and the definition and execution of objectives supportive of Project Management functional goals and overall R&D strategic goals. 


Your Role and Responsibilities:


  • Leads a team of Project/Program Managers responsible for new product introduction (NPI) objectives ranging from early concept and prototyping through sustained volume production and transfer to any of the HMC manufacturing sites (if applicable).  Key accountabilities include resource planning and allocation, team definition and alignment, and governance of project execution across multiple functional areas to achieve project objectives.
  • Provides leadership at the management and individual contributor levels while identifying and supporting development and training needs for both hard and soft skills across the team.
  • Provides work direction and coaching for best-in-class project management practices including scope definition, resource/financial/communication planning & execution, cross-functional work breakdown design, critical path/chain planning, change control, risk management, visual management, agile methodologies, etc. in order to achieve high levels of execution performance.
  • Fosters a collaborative culture focused on achieving results, open communication, efficiency and proactive problem-solving.
  • Accurately and effectively reports and communicates progress and issues in support of business objectives. 
  • Partners effectively and proactively with other functional leaders and teams including Product Engineering, Process Engineering, Operations, Quality, Commercial, Regulatory, Portfolio Management, and others as applicable.
  • Leads site project governance processes to ensure product development results are optimized across the assigned areas. 
  • Promotes core team practices leading to cross-functional accountability and a ‘quality first’ mindset.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and drives improvements to systems and processes.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include the selection, training and development, assignment of work, and performance management of employees.
  • Provides realistic goals and ongoing coaching and feedback to team.  Conducts annual performance and development reviews.


What is required for this role:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required
  • A minimum of 7 years previous product development experience.  This includes managing highly detailed, multifaceted technical projects
  • Previous management and leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills, great communication skills, and high motivation
  • Project management certification (PMP) strongly preferred
  • Experience in various medical device areas such as neuromodulation and interventional a plus
  • Strong understanding of medical device design and development
