ICP Chemist
The Chemist produces accurate and timely analysis of specified samples using the defined methods and procedures in order to support the company’s sales, material management and production efforts.
Your Role and Responsibilites:
- Performs analyses according to assigned written procedures, manages several concurrent analyses as required, and strives to exceed accuracy and performance measures as provided by company management.
- Closely examines sample quality and labeling and brings any deviation to the attention of Senior Chemist or Supervisor and suggests course of action.
- Prepares and reviews assay in specified form to be approved by Senior Chemist or Supervisor.
- Constantly monitors assay precision against historical norms, stated expectations, standards and preliminary results and brings any perceived deviation to the immediate attention of the Senior Chemist or Supervisor and suggests course of action.
- Works with staff, manager and customer department to create and/or modify methods when instructed. Assures all methods are properly documented according to Heraeus QA/QC policies.
- Participates in shift change over and communicates the status of all analyses and needed work.
- Keeps all equipment in functional operating condition, clean and available. Monitors equipment and supply needs and promptly informs supervisor of action to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Ensures personal and overall laboratory work areas are organized and clean. Performs all necessary housekeeping as directed or required and leaves workplace in clean and orderly condition at end of shift.
What is required for this role:
- Bachelor in Chemistry or related field preferred.
- Experience in wet chemical analysis and precious metals analysis preferred.
- Experienced with ICP, AAS, IC and general instrumental methods preferred.
- The ability to add, subtract, multiply and convert calculations to percentage and to metric system. The ability to understand concepts involving statistics, probabilities and formula manipulation and perform basic calculations on volume, mass, atomic percentages, weight percentages, density, molecular weight of alloys and compounds and charge weights.
- While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to chemical compounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is not exposed to weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is not exposed to elevated temperatures. May be assigned shifts that include evening, nights and/or weekend days.
