The primary responsibility of this position is to manufacture product to meet customer and HQAW requirements and contribute to continuous improvement.  Machine Operator 1 is the first level of production skill in manufacturing glass.  This position requires mastering the operation and maintenance of at least 2 pieces of equipment within a process.  In addition, this position is intended to be a learning role to gain higher skills.

 

Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Master Orientation training, including an understanding of Heraeus, the Safety and Quality Management Systems, principles of Lean Manufacturing as applied at HQA Wilmington, SAP production order flow, and basic care and handling of quartz glass products.
  • Follow safe working practices including wearing all personal protective equipment.
  • Produce products following standard operating procedures, production order routers, and drawing specifications, and refer any doubts to the Production Manager.
  • Record appropriate quality and production information to verify that product meets requirements.
  • Do not pass on product that does not meet requirements.  Stop production to fix problems and refer to the Production Manager those problems that cannot be fixed in a normal amount of time or without additional resources.
  • Continuously improve all aspects of production, for example methods, tools, records, communication and teamwork.  Present ideas for improvement to Production Manager for approval before implementing any change.

 

What is required for this role:

  • As a minimum, Machine Operator should have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) with all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks. 
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision; must be a self-starter.
