#HeraeusPeople Story

Straight out of school? Right here!

Roger Andrés Mora Durán, Senior Engineering Technician, R&D Electrophysiology, Heraeus Medevio

"January 2017. I remember my first day at work – it was an incredible challenge. I came straight from school, and after completing my technical internship in precision mechanics, I entered the world of medical device manufacturing. Back then, I never imagined where this journey would take me.

From my first job to a learning journey

I started as a technical operator, running machines on the production floor. After a few years, I reached Level 3, the highest qualification level, which meant mastering every aspect of the equipment I worked with. I then had the opportunity to become a coordinator in production for several years and took on supervisory responsibilities. Later, I joined the Electrophysiology team. When we moved into our new building, I was given the opportunity to work as a Manufacturing and NPI Technician, which helped me develop strongly in engineering and new processes. Today, I work as an R&D Technician in Electrophysiology, while continuing to support my team at Medevio.

When I look back, I do not only see my own growth – I also see how much Heraeus Medevio has grown. Need a concrete example? Back then, we shared a small cafeteria with space for just twelve people. Today, this place has become a real giant. What makes me especially proud is how much I have developed. Step by step, Heraeus Medevio has supported me by funding training and professional development programs, including certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt, manual skills for the medical industry, pneumatics, and many others. These opportunities also allowed me to travel and visit other Heraeus Medevio locations. I have been to White Bear Lake and Fridley (Minnesota), as well as Boston and California, where I attended technical training courses and learned new ways of working. “Every role has helped me grow.” One project, in particular, has shaped my journey: the Kinefac production line. I truly have a special connection to it. Understanding every detail of the company and how it works is what fascinates me most – because it allows me to see where I can support others and help my colleagues.

Part of something bigger

Today, many colleagues come to me when they need help. Especially in R&D, where many team members are new, I often serve as their first point of contact. “Sometimes I feel like a walking encyclopedia.” I say that with a smile because I genuinely enjoy sharing what I have learned. Whenever a problem arises, I step in and help – even if it is not directly part of my area of responsibility anymore. I do not ask: “Why can’t this be done?” I ask: “How can we solve this together?” So why do I still enjoy coming to work every day? After all these years, the most important thing to me is the sense of belonging. I am part of something bigger than myself. We develop products that help people and save lives. That gives my work real meaning. One thing I have learned along the way is this: if you are willing to learn, opportunities will come. Heraeus Medevio has given me the chance to grow, gain experience, and share my knowledge with others."
