#HeraeusPeople Story

Whoever has the ball helps the team

Dídimo Samudio Rojas, Line Leader, Heraeus Medevio

"Joining Heraeus was one of the greatest opportunities of my life. There is no other way to describe it. My first day was in April 2016. I started as a machine operator on the night shift. Even during that first shift, I realized that this place was different from anything I had experienced before.

The most important pass: learning every day

Moving to Heraeus was a radical change. I entered a world where I could work, grow, and help shape the future. Today, that experience helps me every day. I know the production lines. I know the machines. I know what it takes to keep everything running smoothly. Today, I work as a Line Leader on Shift A, the first shift. Sometimes I am responsible for one line, sometimes for two. It depends on where support is needed. I am always where something needs attention.

Whether in the cleanroom or outside of it, I know the procedures. I know the processes. I know the people. Just like in soccer, you need to know where the ball is – and when to pass it. Besides playing soccer, I enjoy reading. It has helped me understand many things better. Currently, I am studying Engineering with a specialization in Electromechanics. But learning does not only happen at university. I learn every day from the people around me: from engineers, from management, from operators, and from colleagues who take on new responsibilities. What impresses me most is seeing people grow. Sometimes it truly amazes me. The machines and products also continue to evolve. For years, I have witnessed technological advances in our guidewires and production equipment. The company grows through innovation – and I grow with it.

What I tell my children about my job

My children often ask me: “Dad, why do you enjoy going to work so much?” I always tell them about the people – the colleagues I work with every day and the way we support each other. The fact that nobody is left alone when things get difficult. I tell them: “Because I feel good there.” And it is true. For that, I am grateful. Today, I live in Cartago. I am originally from Arenal, a region famous for its volcano. Sometimes I think that image fits Heraeus Medevio quite well. Things are always moving here. The company grows. It changes. It creates energy. And I am fortunate to be part of it. Over the years, many friendships have developed. When we have time, after work we grab a soccer ball and head to the field. Then we are not talking about production lines or machines – we are simply playing soccer together. And that same feeling carries over into the workplace. Everyone has a position. Everyone brings their strengths. But we can only win as a team."
