Heraeus Quartz North America has an immediate opening for a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer III to join our Research and Development team in Buford, GA. In this role, you will be responsible for providing engineering design and technical services to the R&D department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial mechanical engineering and experience with managing mechanical intensive capital projects. You will play a critical role in developing, implementing and improving processes in order to meet R&D project demands, while improving efficiency, productivity, costs, and quality.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Upgrade existing mechanical legacy systems, develop new systems for R&D/Production processes.
  • Work with technicians and operators on a shop floor level during installation and commissioning of mechanical systems.
  • Design and engineer sophisticated mechanical systems using Autodesk-inventor or the like.
  • Provide hands on troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Manage mechanical upgrade & design intensive R&D capital projects.
  • Provide training to operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
  • Work cross functionally with Engineering, controls engineers, process engineers, operations, and outside contractors to design, install, and commission manufacturing solutions for new processes and products.
  • Collect, evaluate, and analyze process data to evaluate the effectiveness of the mechanical systems.

What is Required for this Role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial mechanical engineering experience is required.
  • Experience with mechanical intensive capital projects.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Inventor or the like) and troubleshooting mechanical system.
  • Ability to create and interpret sophisticated mechanical drawings. 
  • Must be able and willing to work on shop floor during troubleshooting or project execution.
  • Ability to communicate across functional areas and across levels of expertise.
  • Flexible to work long hours and occasionally during non-standard working hours.
  • Experience with high temperature or glass manufacture processing is preferred.
  • US Work Authorization required.
