Under general direction, the EHS Specialist coordinates and supervises the EHS activities for Heraeus Medevio.  This person will conduct specialized work in support of Operations and EHS activities and perform related work as required.  Areas of responsibility may include, but are not limited to, EHS regulations and compliance, EHS programs, procedures, trainings. The EHS Specialist assists in the coordination, establishment and appropriateness of a Business/Disaster Recovery Plan for the site.  

Your Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, and safety programs as per Corporate or regulatory authorities.
  • Established and execute the EHS Roadmap for the business.
  • Develop and implement Decarbonization initiatives to support Corporate sustainability goals.
  • Develop and/or review SOP’s on EHS topics. 
  • Coordinates ongoing environmental (EHS) inspections, approvals, permitting and mitigation efforts including implementation of safety committee recommendations and initiatives.
  • Works with regulatory agencies and (where necessary) outside specialists to assure constant compliance of the division with all applicable laws.
  • Conduct Risk and Machine Risk Assessments with the support of co-workers & engineers when necessary.
  • Oversees the administration of the environmental internal auditing programs to include conducting internal and external audits.  Performs audits as needed.
  • Investigates, performs root cause analysis and ensures effective closure of corrective actions as they relate to the EHS matters (Incidents/Accidents/Near Misses or Observations).  Provides necessary support to all departments in closing out internal corrective actions in order to continually improve processes as they relate to environmental and health & safety aspects.
  • Interface with state and federal agencies such as State Environmental agencies, DOT, EPA and OSHA..

What is Required for This Role:

  •  Bachelor Degree in Engineering Science.  
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment required. Knowledge in Environmental Science preferred.  
  • Above average reading, writing and oral English and Spanish skills. 
  • Presentation skills and ability to clearly communicate to a variety of audiences.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, EHS & Regulations basic knowledge, Engineering, Utilities, Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma approaches. 
  •  Ability to analyze EHS Data for insights on how to support performance improvement and to effectively improve processes with minimal direction and information.  
  • Ability to assist with the strategic development of trend analyses and metrics reports for the site to drive down injury rates and improve other aspects of EHS performance.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of human and cultural differences and provide resolution strategies without becoming emotionally involved.    
  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity.
