Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Product Engineering, the primary responsibility for the Principal Engineer – Product Engineering is to lead the design and development of medical products from concepts to launch with focus on Nitinol and Nitinol-related medical device products. This position is instrumental in driving the success of projects teams, projects, and mentoring of junior team members.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of technical execution plans and deliverables in support of the project manager
  • Create detailed technical execution plans with client and internal project team
  • Design, document, and oversee the development and execution of engineering projects
  • Lead the design, development, and validation activities throughout the product life cycle
  • Predict and identify risks and work to improve engineering application processes
  • Monitor and supervise documentation practices for requirements, design output, design verification, and testing using Heraeus and/or customer QMS
  • Provide leadership to other engineers on the project team to conduct successful engineering analysis on design, concepts, and associated research
  • Mentor all engineers within the team throughout project execution
  • Communicate complex information with reputable understanding to all levels of collaborators, including customers, project team members, and others
  • Facilitate/make technical decisions on projects (i.e. vendor selection, decisions critical to quality on design, concept selection, etc.)
  • Other duties may be assigned

What is Required for This Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field required, master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience required including specific experience with Nitinol design and processing (material properties, laser cutting, post processing, shape setting, testing, etc.); 1 year of relevant experience may be substituted for a graduate degree and 3 years for a doctorate
  • Well established knowledge of multiple engineering functional areas (e.g. product development, test, modeling, process, etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge in use of Nitinol components in medical devices and use of finite element analysis for Nitinol components plus
  • Reputable established knowledge of multiple engineering functional areas (i.e. product development, test, modeling, process, etc.)
  • Independently applies expertise in the understanding of the methodology for process and design selection and consulted as subject matter expert
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts to all audiences including senior management
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in application of engineering principles to solve the most complex problems
  • Able to make complex data driven decisions utilizing statistical tools such as DOE, tolerance stack-up analysis, or Minitab
  • Excellent independent problem-solving skills, serves as a coach and mentor to others in this area
  • Ability to establish cross-functional relationships and influence to drive results
  • Demonstrates strong leadership in communicating and championing the need for continuous improvements and continued change to meet company needs
  • Must be willing and able to regularly travel between the Fridley and White Bear Lake locations; in addition, some domestic or international travel may be required – up to 10%

Medevio is committed to providing competitive total compensation and benefits packages. The expected base salary hiring range for this position is between $125,000.00 and $160,000.00, based upon a full-time schedule. This is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. Base salaries are determined by taking a variety of factors in account, including, but not limited to, candidate qualifications, geographic locations, market conditions and internal equity. This position is bonus eligible, with a target bonus of 15% of base salary depending upon company and individual performance. Our total compensation package also includes eligibility for comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with company match, education reimbursement, paid parental leave and paid time off.
