Purpose of the Job 

The ICP Chemist performs advanced instrumental analysis and scientific investigations to support precious metals refining, production operations, quality assurance, material valuation, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance. This position serves as a technical resource within the laboratory, applying specialized expertise in Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) spectroscopy and related analytical technologies to generate accurate analytical data, troubleshoot complex issues, optimize laboratory methods, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The role exercises independent judgment in data interpretation, method execution, troubleshooting, and quality assessment while supporting business decisions involving production, inventory, customer reporting, and material accountability.

Job Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday 3:30pm- 12am
  • + required Sundays 3:30pm-12am (Overtime)

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Responsible

  • Analytical Testing & Instrumental Expertise: Perform advanced quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses utilizing ICP-OES, ICP-MS, GD-OES, IC, and related analytical instrumentation to support refining, production, and commercial activities.
  • Data Evaluation & Interpretation: Evaluate sample integrity, preparation methods, analytical conditions, instrument performance, and analytical results to ensure accurate, reliable, and defensible data.
  • Method Development & Optimization: Assist in the development, validation, optimization, and implementation of analytical methods to improve laboratory capabilities, efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Investigate analytical discrepancies, calibration issues, instrumentation performance problems, atypical results, and process deviations through structured root-cause analysis.
  • Equipment Stewardship: Maintain laboratory instrumentation in a state of operational readiness through routine monitoring, troubleshooting, performance verification, and coordination of maintenance activities.
  • Quality Assurance: Verify data quality through calibration verification, quality control review, statistical analysis, precision monitoring, and corrective action implementation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support initiatives focused on improving laboratory efficiency, analytical accuracy, reproducibility, workflow standardization, and cost effectiveness.

Accountable

  • Analytical Accuracy: Generation of accurate, timely, and defensible analytical results used for production control, product quality, inventory valuation, and customer reporting
  • Data Integrity: Maintenance of complete, traceable, and compliant analytical records and laboratory documentation.
  • Method Compliance: Adherence to approved analytical methods, laboratory procedures, QA/QC systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Laboratory Readiness: Proper operation, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting of assigned analytical instrumentation and laboratory equipment. S
  • Safety & Environmental Compliance: Compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety requirements and safe handling of chemicals, reagents, laboratory waste, and analytical materials.

Support

  • Provide technical support and knowledge sharing to Chemists, Laboratory Technicians, Operations personnel, and cross-functional business partners.
  • Assist with laboratory training activities related to methods, instrumentation, and analytical procedures.
  • Collaborate with Production, Refining, Quality, Engineering, EHS, and Commercial teams to resolve technical issues and support business objectives.
  • Support internal audits, corrective action programs, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
