Position Summary

The Automation Engineer III will be responsible for designing, building, and integrating motion control solutions for custom automation and robotic equipment within a medical device manufacturing environment. It involves full-cycle development of electro-mechanical systems, software, and HMIs—from concept through installation. Key responsibilities include equipment installation, testing, debugging, and providing ongoing engineering-level support for electrical and software systems. The Automation Engineer III also focuses on upgrading obsolete equipment and integrating mechanical and electro-mechanical tooling and systems.

What You’ll Do Every Day:

  • Manage and implement controls, electrical, & software design from project concept to installation, including: machine concepting, risk assessment and proof-of-principle, component selection & sourcing, electrical layout, panel building and machine wiring, software design/programming, mechanical design and assembly, HMI creation and maintenance, debug of hardware/software, acceptance testing & safety, and installation/integration into production
  • System documentation throughout the project concept and installation
  • Evaluate existing systems and provide engineering level support to maintenance and production
  • Maintain systems knowledge of existing off-the-shelf and custom equipment
  • Troubleshoot difficult technical problems on a variety of equipment
  • Implement long-term upgrade solutions for obsolete equipment, components & software
  • Actively support improvement efforts and work with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Other duties assigned as required.

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field (Electrical, Controls, Computer Science, Mechatronic, Automation or or related field); master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field helpful.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience, preferably with a focus on development of custom automation control solutions.
  • Demonstrate a strong general understanding of electro-mechanical, and automated systems.
  • Demonstrate CAD modeling/design experience.
  • Must be able to follow a disciplined and detailed approach to project management, design process and be able to manage multiple parallel projects with varying scopes and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the following specific brands a plus:
    • Control Systems: Delta Tau (Omron), Beckhoff
    • Communication: Ethercat, Ethernet, RS232
    • Software: Visual Studio, Visio, C++, HTML
    • Motion Control: Servo, Stepper, Linear
    • Vision: Keyence, Beckhoff
    • Safety: Keyence, Beckhoff, Banner
    • Robots: Epson, Universal, Mecademic
    • Sensors: Keyence, SMC, Turck
    • CAD: SolidWorks
  • Demonstrate strong collaborative communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be able to draw on and adapt prior knowledge and experience to initiate effective solutions.
  • Must be adaptive to change and willing to support a variety of work assignments.

Medevio is committed to providing competitive total compensation and benefits packages. The expected hiring range for this position is between $100,000 and $130,000 based upon a full-time schedule. This is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. Base salaries are determined by taking a variety of factors in account, including, but not limited to, candidate qualifications, geographic locations, market conditions and internal equity. This position is bonus eligible, with a 10% target bonus. Our total compensation package includes eligibility for comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with company match, education reimbursement, paid parental leave and paid time off.
