Summary

The Senior Scientist/Engineer: Materials Characterization plays a critical role in advancing product development and process understanding through expert-level experimentation, data analysis, and method development. As a senior-level subject matter expert, this role is responsible for designing and executing complex experiments, mentoring junior staff and technicians, and serving as a subject matter expert in multiple analytical domains. The role requires a deep understanding of chemistry and physics in relation to material science and analytical methods. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in materials science and metrology, with a strong focus on powder and raw material characterization.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

· Familiarity and experience with a broad range of analytical techniques and laboratory equipment including but not limited to:

· SEM, EDS, XRF, XRD, BET, PSD, ICP-MS, TGA/DSC, spectroscopy, rheology, dilatometer, polishers, furnaces, ect.

· Ability to operate, maintain and ideally perform minor repairs on lab equipment to keep it in good working order.

· Design and conduct advanced experiments to support product development, process optimization, and failure analysis.

· Prepare high quality reports on technical matters that can be communicated across a broad audience.

· Become the resident expert in the laboratory space for the instrumentation and materials.

· Develop and validate analytical methods for material characterization, including powders, raw materials, and finished products.

· Identify, evaluate, and recommend new analytical instrumentation and technologies to enhance lab capabilities.

· Prepare technical reports, contribute to intellectual property development, and support patent applications.

· Present findings at internal reviews and external scientific conferences.

· Mentor and support the development of junior scientists and technicians.

· Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing.

What is required for the role:

· Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; or, BS/MS degree with equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

· 10+ years of laboratory experience.

· Demonstrated expertise in experimental design and advanced data analysis.

· Strong background in materials characterization techniques.

· Proven ability to write and implement analytical methods.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills, including technical presentations.

· Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work independently while contributing to team-based projects.
